PREP Program

After completing an undergraduate degree, it is hard to know if you’re ready for graduate school or if research is the right path for you. A program set forth by the National Institute of Health created a Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) program!

The PREP program is designed to exposure individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, including those with disabilities, to biomedical research to develop skills needed to doctoral research. You must be a US citizen.

This program is one year typically, but exceptions can be made. Throughout the year, participants are exposed to research in a mentor’s laboratory where they are able to conduct their own research while also working on graduate school applications and exposure to professional development, such as by presenting work at scientific conferences.

PREP programs are hosted at many different research universities across the United States. There are currently ~30 PREP programs, but they are not represented in each state. Each program’s cohort size also ranges and each offers different preparation.
