Fashion Round-Up (Best of Met Gala & Cannes Film Festival)

Well it’s certainly been awhile. What can I say – life got in the way. So, since I was long overdue for a new entry, I figured what better way to get back in the swing of things but with a good ol’ fashioned Fashion post. The last few weeks have seen two of the biggest fashion events in entertainment – The Costume Institute Gala, better known as The MET Gala and the Cannes Film Festival, currently taking place right now. So without further ado, here are some of my favorite fashion moments from The MET Gala and The Cannes Film Festival (so far).

The MET Gala

For the first time, since 1983, a living designer’s work was the sole theme of the night. The honour went to Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo and her fashion label, Comme des Garçons. Here are my five favourite looks from the night by celebrities who one, got the theme of the night, two, recognized that is a Costume Gala and three, they should have fun with their fashion choices.

Rihanna

Was there any doubt that she’d be one of my Top 5? The MET Gala is practically tailor-made for Rihanna’s bold, daring and a little out there fashion choices. And this outfit was no different. Plus, she was one of the very few who honoured the night’s theme by wearing a Comme des Garçons original.

Like Rihanna, Pharrell’s better half stayed true to the night’s theme by not only wearing an outfit from the Comme des Garçons but going for one of the more daring and avant garde pieces.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Proving that one could honor the theme, while not making things too crazy, Elise-Ross nailed it in this Comme des Garçons number that was both a little bold but still wearable.

Zendaya

While not a Comme des Garçons design, this look was fitting for the night’s theme with its intriguing pattern and full body volume. The hair was on point too.

Ruth Negga

Another non-Comme des Garçons number but also fitting for the night with its geometric, clean shape and lines.

The Cannes Film Festival

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival does not officially come to a close until May 28th, so there’s still time for plenty more swoon worthy red carpet moments. However, the first week of the festival already brought some stunning gems. Here are some of my favorites.

Nicole Kidman

Okay yes, it is a bit ballerina/tutu skirt. But there’s something so whimsical and delicate and just beautiful about it. I accept that this may not be a popular opinion.

Elle Fanning

That’s how you kill it on a red carpet.

Sara Sampaio

Trust a model to look stunning on a red carpet. The gorgeous dress helps immensely.
