An authentic Game Boy horror game

Deadeus is a horror Game Boy video game developed by the GB Studio engine. This game centers around a small boy, who is having a prophetic nightmare. In the dream, he learned that everyone will die in three days and that he has to investigate his village to see how he can save them. There are 11 endings in the game with no direct paths. It is up to the players to strategize their course of action.

Emulator required

Deadeus will put you in control of the young boy who had the disturbing prophetic dreams—with the hopes that you’ll lead them in the right direction to save everyone. The only drag is that going in the right direction will put you in close contact with some monstrous being and some sickening places. You will need to hold to your nerves as you look for clues. As noted, the game offers 11 different endings, depending on which routes you take through the game.

Your adventure can end unpleasantly, so you’ll need to think about where to go and what to do. In terms of visual style and tone, Deadeus has a look that is a mix of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and the earlier Game Boy Pokemon games. Moreover, its simple yet effective chiptune soundtrack reinforces the game’s retro 8-bit aesthetics

This title is considered an authentic Game Boy game since it is a Game Boy ROM. A ROM is a data file containing a copy of the read-only memory (ROM) chip from a cartridge such as the Game Boy or NES. However, to play these ROMs on your PC, you will need to use an emulator. As this is an actual ROM, you need to install an emulator to play the game

A contemporary throwback title

Despite the limitations of the Game Boy, Deadeus offers some horrifying imagery. It managed to provide a tangled frightening story that will take a great deal of work to unravel. Add in a retro 2D pixel art, and the game will take you back to the era of Game Boy games. All in all, it looks to be a fine addition to your contemporary throwback game collection.
