I started translating DoraTama during Covid, mostly as a way of improving my Japanese. I only plan on translating freely-available WNs, and I don’t plan on ever accepting donations. Ulz is also translating here – he joined the DoraTama translation part way through, and is now translating OreAku.
Tips for learning Japanese:
– start by paying attention to the audio of anime
– memorise hiragana/katatana and ~50 most common kanji, using anki or an app
– listen to audiobooks – audible.jp requires a Japanese address to set up an account, but you can spoof any address
– watch Japanese youtube (recommendations: marine, kotorabu)
– set up the Yomichan plugin so you can read any Japanese text
