Austin's Parkland Dedication needs YOUR help!

HB 1526, the Parkland Dedication bill is up for a hearing on Wednesday (3/22) at 8:00 AM in the House Land and Resource Management Committee at the State Capitol. This bill would GUT our ability to meet the demand on our parkland.

We need as many people as possible to make phone calls and/or send emails to members of the Texas House Land and Resource Management Committee to OPPOSE HB1526 before 8 AM on Wednesday, 3/22. (If you are able, testifying in person would have a huge impact and we would love to see you at the Capitol on Wednesday!)

This bill is targeting Austin’s Parkland Dedication and it should be up to us and OUR city to decide how we protect and develop our parkland, not for the State or representatives from East Texas to dictate.

Use the following script for phone calls and emails:

HI, MY NAME IS ______ AND I AM CALLING/EMAILING TO URGE YOU TO OPPOSE HB1526 by Representative Cody Harris.

Under this bill, there will be fewer green spaces accessible to people. Austin is already dealing with park deficiency due to the fast and dense growth. This bill will take us backward.

Grey should pay for green! Developers should pay their fair share of ensuring green spaces and connectivity are available to the residents that live where they build. Grey means buildings, developments, roads, and other structures. Green are the green spaces, trails, parks, and other amenities that are not as prevalent in a highly developed environment.

This bill picks a fight over very small green space that is often undevelopable. We are not talking about parks but rather trails or dog parks. Over 75% of the parkland dedicated through new developments are undevelopable. They are, more often than not, part of creek corridors encompassing floodplains.

Thank you for your time today and please use me as a resource as you deliberate these bills. Again, please oppose this bill to preserve my quality of life and the quality of life of my entire community.

Thank you,
