With everything that has evolved from it since its release, it wouldn't be controversial to say that FF1 is the most absolute basic the idea of an RPG can get. Not much of a narrative to speak of at all, or characters for that fact. The turn based combat doesn't have any bells and/or whistles. You just kind of go from town to town, dungeon to dungeon conquering the world. This simplicity is the double-edged sword that makes it remarkably unremarkable, a description that fits this game to a tee.

Step down from RRT4. Gameplay is still fun especially with the increased difficulty and courses are solid. Visuals look meh during the day but pretty sharp at night. The presentation overall has shines of greatness with the Ridge City Fm approach but it doesn't feel like it goes all the way there.
