Hiding in the night
Only showing her face
To scare away the child inside
Who needs her
Now more than ever

Her power
Careful held within
Waiting for the right time
The right place
And what she doesn’t want to see
Is that the time is always now
And the beauty of her big heart
Is always ready to give
And also to receive

Presence
Power
Purpose
She stands in her glory
For all to see
No more hiding
Behind what should be
Only standing in what always has been

In her hiding place
She sees no one and nothing
Maybe they no longer exist,
Maybe she no longer exists,
Safe inside from a world
That doesn’t understand
And if she emerges
With stars in her eyes
Fully captured in the light,
What if it starts again,
The yearning of her mind
To be free?
What if the only way to be free
Is to see and to be seen?

We run through life
Deftly avoiding all the trips along the way
The stones that mar the path,
The crevices that catch an ankle,
Giving the illusion of speed,
In actuality more like the turtle,
Hiding in her shell
Little turtle, held tightly
Within the safety of her shell
Refusing to acknowledge the light of day
Yet shells can be cracked and broken,
And she whispers to me:
“Do you know what I have given up?
For this safety, I traded darkness
And am forever alone,
The world runs on by past me
In its hurry to avoid,
Not so different from me, I dare think.”
And she whispers too, as I run away
“It’s time to stop the running now
Take off the armor of avoidance
Carry the shield of the warrior,
The fighting is near
And no amount of running and hiding can stop it
Only eyes to see
An open heart,
And a shield of love”
