About budgets for ads in TikTok Ads Manager

Last updated: August 2025

A budget determines how much you're willing to spend to reach your target audience. When you set up an ad campaign or ad group in TikTok Ads Manager, you can choose budget preferences that will impact your campaign.

Daily Budget vs. Lifetime Budget

TikTok offers two main budget types: Daily budget and Lifetime budget. Each budget type serves a different purpose depending on your campaign goals.

  • Daily Budget: The average amount you're willing to spend on the campaign or ad group per day. Daily Budget is ideal for ongoing campaigns or when you want to monitor and adjust performance daily.

  • Lifetime Budget: The total amount you're willing to spend over the entire duration of the campaign or ad group. Lifetime Budget is best for time-sensitive campaigns with fixed durations, such as product launches, holiday promotions, or events.

Minimum Budget Guidelines

TikTok requires minimum budget thresholds at both the campaign and ad group levels to ensure stable ad delivery.

For Daily Budget:

  • Campaign level: Budget must exceed $50

  • Ad group level: Budget must exceed $20

For Lifetime Budget:

  • Campaign level: Budget must exceed $50

  • Ad Group level: Calculate as the minimum daily budget ($20) x scheduled days.

For example, the minimum Lifetime Budget for an ad group in a campaign that runs for 31 days would need to be at least $20 x 31 = $620.

Note: The budget may not be allocated evenly across each day, but it won't exceed the total lifetime budget by the end of the campaign.

Once your ad group reaches its allocated budget, ad delivery will pause automatically. You'll need to increase the budget or extend the schedule to resume delivery. While you can always update your daily or lifetime budget after launching a campaign or ad group, you cannot switch between budget types once a campaign or ad group is live.

Tips for managing your budget in TikTok Ads Manager

  • In addition to following minimum budget guidelines, the Campaign budget should not be lower than the Ad Group budget because this can cause delivery issues.

  • To maintain stable CPA and support algorithm optimization, adjust your budget based on the campaign’s learning phase status: if the campaign is in the learning phase, increase the budget by no more than 40% per adjustment; if the campaign has exited the learning phase, limit budget increases to no more than 30% per adjustment. Avoid making adjustments more frequently than every two days.

  • Start with a daily budget to monitor performance before committing to a lifetime budget.
