“I wish every remote worker a manager like Rob. For several years Rob was my primary contact at the Wikimedia Foundation. Rob always managed to find time to keep me informed, about strategy and office affairs, to learn about my progress and challenges, to brainstorm about ideas and solutions. I admire his technical depth, his drive, his friendliness, his commitment to open source software, and not least his sense of humor. ”

Helping computer science and math students that are having problems reviewing coursework as explained by their instructors. I hope many of these students are able to transfer to four-year colleges (as is many of their stated goal).

It all started when I tried to build an intranet knowledge base for RealNetworks using MoinMoin wiki in fall of 2001. I had hoped maybe someone would have started a wiki about online multimedia, but the only thing I was able to find in any of the search engines (Altavista, Yahoo, Google, Dogpile) was a general-purpose staging wiki for Nupedia. After I added some of my largely-unsourced braindumps of knowledge I gained in my dayjob, I got addicted to watching my unsourced braindumps on many…

After I added some of my largely-unsourced braindumps of knowledge I gained in my dayjob, I got addicted to watching my unsourced braindumps on many topics get cleaned up by these mythical wikignomes who could be *even more fussy and pedantic than me*, which I didn't think was possible. I got even more addicted and nerdy-evangelical as I watched the website's unstoppable progression up the Alexa rankings. These days, I still make changes to articles about the PNW and about electoral reform. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/RobLa to stalk me.

Served on the board of an organization that was graduating from being an incredibly successful all-volunteer project hosting thousands of wikis using MediaWiki. Miraheze had recently become a proper UK-based non-profit company known as "Miraheze Limited". Miraheze Ltd provided free UK-based hosting for public wikis that host content under open licenses, such as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (commonly referred to as "CC-by-sa 4.0"). Miraheze Ltd provided free UK-based hosting for public wikis that host content under open licenses, such as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (commonly referred to as "CC-by-sa 4.0"). My motivation: I wanted to make sure that the hosting for a political-educational wiki (<a href="https://electowiki.org">electowiki.org</a>) was in good hands. It was. After my departure from the board, the organization merged with a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in the United States known as "WikiTide".

I became really interested in MediaWiki's potential outside of Wikimedia in starting in 2005. I did some development in the authentication hooks and submitted a few bugfix patches. I ran a workshop at Wikimania 2006 for MediaWiki in the enterprise. Continued to daydream about being able to do MediaWiki for my day job until a Wikimedia Foundation recruiter who saw all of the MediaWiki on my LinkedIn profile and suggested I speak with them.
